An Introduction to Delta-8-THC
The cannabis plant, including hemp, has over 120 cannabinoids but only a handful have really been studied and marketed. The most commonly focussed is THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) but even THC varies in strength and character.
Let’s take a closer look at Delta-8-THC and its close cousin Delta-9-THC, and see how they differ.
Everyone knows what Delta-9-THC is, the cannabis molecule that gives you the “high” feeling.
Delta-9-THC is the psychoactive compound present in cannabis that has had the most attention in recent years. However, Delta-9 is not the only THC molecule in cannabis, there is something else, extremely similar and 100% legal, called Delta-8-THC.
Over the last couple of years, consumers have turned their eyes to Delta-8-THC due to its unique properties.
What Is Delta-8-THC?
Delta-8-THC is just one of 100+ cannabinoids in cannabis. We extract and concentrate it since it only exists naturally in small percentages within the cannabis flower. Like other cannabinoids, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system – specifically the CB1 receptor of the nervous system – to bring on its psychotropic effects.
Despite the difference in the natural quantities of Delta-8-THC and Delta-9-THC in cannabis, when concentrated, they interact with the nervous system similarly.
The Difference Between Delta-8-THC And Delta-9-THC

So – what is the difference between Delta-8-THC and Delta-9-THC?
There are 3 differences: There are the differences on a molecular level, differences in availability and there are differences when it comes to experiencing the highs.
- Molecular: On a molecular level Delta-9-THC has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain whereas Delta-8-THC has a double bond on the 8th carbon chain. Despite this being a seemingly small difference, it yields big results.
- Availability: Delta-8-THC is less abundant than Delta-9-THC in the marijuana / cannabis plant – only with recent technological advances have we been able to isolate Delta-8-THC for it to be publicly available.
- Experience: Delta-8-THC has been shown to give a similar “high” to Delta-9-THC but with less severe side-effects. The high produced by Delta-8-THC (in comparison to Delta-9-THC – which is the most common THC) is described as “less intense, gentle, enjoyable and manageable”.
Essentially, the highs from Delta-8-THC are found to have less functionality-impairing effects.
Where To Buy Delta-8 THC & Cannabis Products
You may not find Delta-8 products at your local dispensary (as of the time we’re writing this article). However, we have sourced Delta-8 through one of our favorite providers right here in Las Vegas.
We have been able to take the hemp plant and isolate Delta-8-THC to create several exciting products.
